Over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) Pluto persists

17.04.2024 - FEDERAL NETWORK AGENCY INVOLVED

The over-the-horizon radar operated by the British military on the island of Cyprus continues to interfere with transmissions in the exclusive amateur radio shortwave bands.

According to our records and the reports we have received from radio amateurs, the 15 and 10 metre bands have been particularly affected recently. At the time of the DARC band watch, we were already in dialogue with the Federal Network Agency on this issue.

Radar emissions are usually 20 kHz wide, occasionally also 40 kHz. The sweep rates vary from 10, 25 or 50 SPS depending on the mode.

IG Intruder-Watch has submitted another report to the BNetzA and asked for support.
